The series ZOO New Beginnings ends. Why did Prima suddenly stop the most expensive project in its history?

The daily series ZOO became a phenomenon after its launch, but the sequel with the subtitle New beginnings did not appeal to the audience as much. And now comes the news that will not please the fans - the project is ending definitively.

Creators: We have reached our maximum

Prima admitted that the series did not meet expectations and for the sake of long-term strategy, shorter, more expressive formats are preferred.

"After a year of broadcasting, the series has reached its audience potential. We have therefore decided to focus on new projects that correspond to our vision in the field of total video," said the group's program director Alex Ruzek.

Problematic sequels

While the original ZOO entertained viewers with a playful plot about twins and their nanny played by Eva Burešová, the sequel lost its original charm. Burešová's romantic relationship with Robert Urban disappeared, and with it a large part of the viewer base.

Instead of light humor and family situations came a group of young people in a shared apartment, a confused veterinary clinic and dark stories full of betrayals and infidelities. Viewers sensed it - viewership decreased and criticism grew stronger.

What will happen to the actors?

The end of the series is a big question mark for the faces that viewers associated exclusively with this project. The fate of Michaela Pecháčková, whom the audience knows mainly as Sid, is the most discussed. "One role actress?" – that's a label that will be hard to get rid of. Šimon Bilina, Štěpán Benoni or Goran Maiello also gained popularity, for whom the end of the series will mean the need to look for new challenges.

An ambitious but expensive loss

ZOO Nové záčátky was supposed to be a direct competitor to the endless Ulica in Nova. But instead of an equal fight, the project became the most expensive, but ultimately unsustainable series for Prima.

Fans are now asking: when will the final blow come down? The date of the final episode is still being kept secret by the television. It doesn't matter - ZOO is ending and Prima will be left with the lesson that audiences want stories that are believable and consistent.
