Jáchym Kraus, the son of actress Ivana Chylková and presenter Jan Kraus, appeared in several film and series roles as a child. It seemed that he would follow in his parents' footsteps and have a distinguished acting career ahead of him. But after the first successes, he decided to take a major step – he left the world of show business and went on a completely different path.
Acting beginnings and popularity among teenage girls
He was in front of the camera for the first time as a seven-year-old in the show You can't make it up!. Later, he also appeared in the movie Wedding on the Battlefield or the series Private Traps. He gained the most attention thanks to the series Gympl with (r)educational disabilities, where he portrayed Patrik Hájk.
The role brought him great popularity, especially among teenage female fans — and parents had the opportunity to watch their son experience fame up close.
"He was more popular than me and Honza combined. When we walked around the mall, a crowd of girls followed us who wanted to to take photos,"
recalled Ivana Chýlková.
And it was the experience of a sudden increase in attention that was one of the reasons why he left acting early. He realized how demanding this profession can be and decided to go his own way.
Study in Prague and abroad
Chýlková and Kraus agreed that it was important for their son to grow up among peers outside the world of celebrities. That's why he attended a regular elementary school. After the eighth grade, however, he joined the English College in Prague, where he was educated according to the British system. This opened the door for him to University of London, which he successfully completed.
Career in International Business and Technology
Today he works in the world of business and modern technology. He works with companies from different parts of the world, often travels and says himself that he is attracted to learning about new environments and cultures.
His mother makes no secret of the fact that she does not fully understand what exactly she does — she says with a smile that she has heard the explanation many times, but it still remains "outside her box".
A partner with exotic roots
During his life abroad, he met Diana, a woman who grew up in Indonesia until she was fourteen. They now live mostly abroad together and only come home for visits.
Chylková tries to establish a relationship with her son's partner, but admits that her English betrays her:
"I've been trying to teach her all my life, but somehow I can't do it,"
she said with humor in the program Honza Dędka's 7 falls.
Jáchym stands firmly outside the spotlight
The former child star is now a man who has built his own identity outside of the influence of his famous parents. He doesn't need to be seen and has apparently found a world where he feels free — in education, travel and business.
