The life of the actor Rostislav Novák, known as Mr. Mareček from the popular series Ulice, resembles a ride on a roller coaster, where he often found himself at the bottom. After a tragic event, when he and his wife gave birth to a stillborn baby, his life situation began to decline precipitously. Desperate to forget this tremendous loss, he turned to alcohol, not realizing how destructive this move was. "Alcohol is truly a demon that destroys," the actor admitted in an interview with Expres, where he openly shared his struggles with addiction.

Family problems and the road to recovery

Rostislav's situation worsened so much that his sons urgently begged him to seek professional help. Although he tried to resist this pressure, his will was not enough. As it turns out, the real motivation for recovery must come from within, and not just from the wishes of loved ones. This fact became the main stumbling block in his story. Alcohol addiction is difficult and his battle with it was long and painful.

Overcoming the crisis and a new beginning

When the actor found himself at rock bottom years later, he experienced a so-called relapse. At that moment he realized that this time he had to take it seriously. "It was like awakening, freedom," Rostislav recalled. He had to accept what could not be changed and start living differently. He felt gratitude and joy, and his goal was to be sober for joy, not duty. This change in thinking helped him start a new life.

Hardest moments and decisions

After the relapse, the actor entered the most difficult phase of his life, when he even considered suicide. In desperation, he wanted to drown himself, but he remembered his family, which eventually dissuaded him from taking this step. Not wanting to cause them any more pain, he decided to face his demon head on. "It's in my head. Now it's been sixteen years of joy," said Rostislav, who realized how important it is to talk about these problems.

Life after recovery and achievements

Rostislav Novák successfully returned to life without alcohol and his character Mr. Mareček in Ulica became a favorite of the audience. Today, it is important for him that people know that treatment and openness about the subject of addiction can help many who struggle with similar problems. His son Rosťa, who has become a successful circus principal, occasionally plays episodic roles in Ulica, but his real passion lies in entertaining the audience under the marquee. Novák's family therefore continues the tradition of fun, while every day is a new opportunity for Rostislav to live joyfully and with the full support of loved ones. When we are not afraid to talk openly about our struggles, we can find the strength and support we need.
