On the night of 26 November 2022, Newcombe and Hamilton met at the Viva nightclub in Richmond, where Hamilton, described as aggressive and unpredictable, began to seek conflict. After watching the England v USA match in the fan zone at Richmond Park, the situation escalated when Hamilton, armed with a broken bottle, attacked Newcombe and fatally shot him in the neck.

According to witnesses, Hamilton threatened to make a "jiu-jitsu f***" of someone and challenged people to a fight. Newcombe, who was intoxicated at the time, decided to confront Hamilton, leading to the tragic incident.

After the attack, Newcombe fell to the ground and his friends tried to help. Hamilton fled but later turned himself in to police. The trial lasted 15 hours and 21 minutes before a jury found Hamilton guilty of murder and assault.

Newcombe's family expressed their deep sadness after the verdict, describing him as a "light" that had been "brutally snuffed out". His death affected many people, and his funeral was attended by more than 4,000 people who came to honor his memory.

Hamilton, who had three previous convictions for violence, tried to defend himself by saying he acted in self-defense. However, the court found that his actions were the result of "intoxicated aggression" and that he armed himself for the attack. Judge Anthony Leonard KC ordered that Hamilton be detained until October 11, when he will be sentenced.

Detective Kevin Martin of Scotland Yard said Newcombe was a beloved son, brother and friend who had his whole life ahead of him. The tragedy that took place was unnecessary and left behind a deep wound in the hearts of his loved ones and friends.
